According to the latest data from the Russian Agricultural Export Development Center (Agroexport), in the first two months of 2024, China has surpassed other countries to become the largest importer of Russian oats. This trend not only strengthens agricultural cooperation between the two countries but also reflects the growing demand for Russian grain in the Chinese market.

According to the satellite news agency, in January and February 2024, Chinese importers purchased oats worth as much as $9 million from Russia, which is 2.4 times as much as in the same period last year. During this period, the total export volume of Russian oats exceeded 64,000 tons, increased 2.5 times compared to last year, and the total export amount reached $15.7 million, increasing 2.6 times.

Behind this growth, not only is China’s increased demand for healthy foods, but also reflects Russia’s progress in improving agricultural production and export capacity. Oatmeal as a nutritious grain, its popularity in China, reflects consumers’ growing concern for healthy eating.

In addition, the Russian Food Exporting Union proposed the establishment of a BRICS food exchange in Russia during its rotating presidency in 2023. Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the proposal at a meeting with agricultural producers on March 5 and said he would work with Russian partners to study the issue. This initiative aims to further boost agricultural trade between BRICS countries and enhance Russian food competitiveness in the international market.
